Meet The Green Trails Animal Clinic Team

Dr. Aina Petritis, Medical Director, DVM

Dr. Petritis joined our Clinic in 1999, after graduating from the University of Minnesota. Prior to pursuing a career as a veterinarian, she was employed at the Brookfield Zoo. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and has a special interest in internal medicine. She is also a strong believer in client education and feels that improving the quality of life is often just as important as maximizing the length of life.

Dr. Petritis is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Ruth Etherton, DVM

After graduating from the University of Illinois with High Honors, Dr. Etherton joined Green Trails Animal Clinic in 1995. She is adept in preventative and geriatric medicine with a focus on dentistry and obesity management. Dr. Etherton understands the importance of the human-animal bond, especially in grief management.

Dr. Etherton is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians, the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. She has a special interest in exotic animals, including small mammals, birds and reptiles.

Dr. Sonja Grimm, DVM

Dr. Grimm joined the Green Trails Animal Clinic family in 2003, after graduating from the University of Illinois. She also is a graduate of Drake University with a major in International Relations and Business.

While at the University of Illinois, she served as a student representative for the Hills Pet Nutrition program. Dr. Sonja is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. Her special interests include senior pet wellness care, nutrition, and pain and arthritis management.

Kim Affelt, Hospital Manager

Kim has been working at Green Trails Animal Clinic since 2005. Her career at the clinic started as a kennel assistant, moved to veterinary assistant, and led to her current position as office supervisor. Graduating in 2011 from Aurora University with a Bachelor’s in Social Work has helped Kim achieve her goals thus far. She has also earned a Masters Degree in Social Work.

Kim spends her free time playing and watching TV with her little dog Buehrle. She enjoys working at Green Trails Animal Clinic and is committed to caring for her clients and their pets.
